Some wines have the ability to be immortal and some labels manage to re-enter a classic world that for many represented the beginning of the sommelier career. This Bertani label must be one of those you keep in your cellar with pride. A wine that sees a long ageing where the two principal vines Corvina and Rondinella manage to express complex and mature notes. It is a perfect expression of Amarone Classico with the sweet and sour aromas and a great harmony on the nose and palate.

Amarone Classico Bertani is a timeless wine that expresses the unique style that Bertani pursues. It is a classic style that does not need to change because it is also always current. This Amarone is made from grapes grown in the Tenuta Novare hills, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, in vineyards devoted entirely to producing drying grapes. Bertani has been making Amarone Classico since 1958, it is the perfect harmony between time, nature and man: devoting know-how and passion to its production, with a long waiting period and great care. The grapes are set aside to dry on the “aréle” (racks made from bamboo canes), according to the traditional production method. Fermentation in concrete and ageing in large barrels for at least six years give it a stable structure, making it one of the longest-lived red wines in the world.

Another great wine that has marked my career from the beginning. A historical label. This wine sees a drying of about 120 days and then continues to evolve for 6 years in barrels of 60 hl and another 12 in the bottle. If time brings wisdom, this is certainly a great lesson in patience that brings nothing but prestige.

Tips: Leave the wine for 1.5 hour in the decanter and pay attention to its evolution. This wine can be stored for another 7-10 years if stored away from any type of direct light, heat or sudden changes of temperatures. Ideally in a cool and slightly humid environment with air flow to prevent the development of mould.


Firstly there are the typical notes of plum, cherry and morello cherry on the nose, followed by a great variety of tones: nuts, tea leaves, liquorice and spices. On the palate there are hints of red berry fruits, softened by plush vanilla notes, in perfect harmony with the acidity and tannins. Intense red colour, with garnet nuances.

Food pairing

It can be matched with red meat, game, mature cheeses, but it is also perfect as a “meditation wine” at the end of a meal.
